Your wedding invitation identifies your personality, and it is an opportunity for a great first impression. Wedding invitations are the very first wedding details your guests get to see. It is, therefore, important that you set the right tone.
Perhaps, you already know the fundamentals of what to include in your wedding invitations, but it’s important to keep this in mind: the do’s and don’ts of wedding invitations as you send them out.
Here is a list of what you should and shouldn’t include in your wedding invitation.
What you should include in your wedding invitation:
1. Host line
Always start wedding invitations with the name of the host. Customarily, the hosts are the parents of the bride. With our present society, however, this isn’t as simple as you may think. It is, therefore, better to follow the format that best suits the dynamism of both families. So, if your parents are hosting, their names should appear first. The same goes if the bride’s parents are the host.
2. Location
Indicating your wedding location is particularly important for a destination wedding.
People who haven’t made any traveling arrangements will start as soon as they get your invite. Specify on your wedding invitation the country, city, and venue location. This will only make things easier for your guests as they find their way to your destination wedding.
3. Date and Time
Of course, it is an obvious one and the most important. This will enable your guests to make the necessary traveling arrangements to make it on time. If your wedding begins in the evening, it gives guests who are closer the option to journey that same morning. Nonetheless, some may prefer to travel the night before, especially if your wedding begins in the early afternoon. This will enable them to sort out their accommodation. Therefore, be as precise as possible with the date and start time of your wedding.
4. Names of invited guests
This is particularly important if you are inviting just a few persons. If you are planning to have an adults-only wedding, be as specific as possible. Write the invitee’s name on the front of the envelope to avoid confusion.
What you shouldn’t write on your wedding invitation
Your wedding invitation shouldn’t be complicated. It should be easy to read. Try not to squeeze a lot of information into your invitation card. If you do, it won’t look as elegant as intended. Do not include things like ‘your phone number, kid-free wedding, list of accommodations and pricing, and your wedding hashtag’ as these won’t set a beautiful tone for your wedding.
To conclude, information that isn’t your wedding date, time, or venue, shouldn’t be included in your wedding invitation. You can put more information on your wedding website if you have one.
