1. Not planning for bad weather

When you envision your wedding ceremony most do not envision storm clouds and rain; however, that is the reality for some couples. Do not let a little sprinkle ruin your destination wedding! Always check with your venue on their bad weather policies and have a back up plan ready for the worst case scenarios.

2. Checking the wedding dress instead of carrying it on the plane

Your dress is one of the most important parts of your wedding celebration. It is highly recommended (not only by our experts but by most airlines as well) that you carry the wedding dress on the plane with you to ensure there are no last minute mistakes. Check with the airline before hand and let them know you plan to bring your dress on board.

3. Sending out destination wedding invites too late

According to the experts at Brides.com you should send out save-the-date announcements eight months before your wedding, and the invites eight weeks before your big day.

4. Spending over the budget and ending the wedding celebration with debt

Winding up in debt after your destination wedding celebration can put a lot of extra stress on you as a married couple. A destination wedding is supposed to be a beautiful celebration of your love as a couple and should not be a cause for too much stress in the relationship- especially after it is over! Make a budget before you start planning and make sure to read some interesting research on happy couples and expensive weddings here.

5. Skipping out on the honeymoon

After all is said and done you deserve a little alone time whether that is near your wedding destination or in another country! Honeymoons allow couples to enjoy their first few days after the stress of the wedding is over. It doesn’t have to be extravagant- it just has to be personal. Research conducted in 2014 by two economists, Andrew Francis-Tan and Hugo M. Mialon from Emory University evaluated the association between wedding spending and marriage duration. The study, “‘A Diamond is Forever’ and Other Fairy Tales: The Relationship between Wedding Expenses and Marriage Duration” found a few very interesting correlations.

Randy Olson, a data scientist, read over the study and created some awesome graphics to better explain the findings.

This graph shows that couples who had honeymoons after the wedding are 41% less likely to get divorced.

Destination weddings are wonderful opportunities to share your wedding ceremony in a new country with your loved ones, these are only a few things to look out for when planning.
